QA/QC consulting - Markus van der Neut

Markus van der Neut is an analytical chemist and statistician with over 20 years of experience in the mining and minerals laboratory sector. He has worked extensively with PGM, gold, base metal, chrome, manganese, coal, and industrial mineral laboratories across Southern Africa, helping them establish and maintain robust quality assurance and quality control programmes.

In collaboration with Octoplus Information Solutions, Markus developed the Basic3QAQC (B3Q) toolkit — a JMP-based add-in that automates the analysis of blanks, standards, duplicates, and check samples. The toolkit was designed to replace error-prone spreadsheet-based approaches with reproducible, auditable statistical analyses that meet the requirements of ISO 17025 accreditation.

Markus has authored comprehensive training manuals covering QAQC theory and practical application of the B3Q software. These materials form the basis of the 3-day training course offered to laboratories adopting the toolkit. The manuals cover CRM selection, control charting, outlier treatment, method precision assessment, and inter-laboratory comparison techniques.
